AirBnB

The tagline of VivShaneAdventures is: “Camping, Timesharing & Inexpensive Travel Around the World!” The Inexpensive Travel part is mainly done through Airbnb. We love this company! It has provided us with soooo many enjoyable accommodations.

We’ve mentioned that we’re not foodies. One way we do budget travel is by avoiding expensive restaurants and preparing our own meals. Vivian is an excellent cook in all types of circumstances. We have a 2-burner stove in our USA pop-top camper and always make sure we have the same when we rent or buy camper vans in other countries.

95% of the timeshares we stay in have full kitchens.

Airbnb is huge with over 6 million listings (2019) all over the world. Indeed, in December  2020, the company went public with a valuation of over $100 billion, a market capital more than the three biggest publicly traded hotels chains (Marriott, Hilton, and Intercontinental) combined.

We always choose a listing with a kitchen. We prefer an apartment/condo/cottage/chalet all to our own but will also stay in homes with a shared kitchen (but rarely a shared bathroom). If we’re staying for a longer period we’ll try to negotiate the price through their messaging system. Sometimes this works and sometimes not but we always ask.

When we were circumnavigating Australia we had to leave the country every 90 days due to the terms of our 1 year visas. Two times, in Cairns & Melbourne we found hosts who let us leave our camper van on their property while we were gone. We just booked stays there before and after our trips. This saved us beaucoup bucks in airport parking! Our Cairns host even drove us to the terminal.
